I Really Don't Get MyOpenMatH
You might have experienced the situation in which your teacher asks you to learn some material and put forward some questions related that material, and then you can't even put out questions to ask. That happened because apart from the fact that most of the students take college physics, algebra, chemistry and they run a risk of getting lost real quick, you probably have failed to grasp the basics concepts of the subject, and you have let yourself wander around the corners of your mind, rather than taking action and going deep into the core of it.
And, to top it off, often times math classes now come with an online portion (or even the whole class is online based) that consists on solving math questions on a specific digital online math platform. And one of them is MyOpenMath, a math questions-and-answers facility that helps you to effectively work through math coursework, with a computer assisted path.
Why MyOpenMath and Not Other Platforms that are more Advanced?
Let's face it, there are many online platforms for math, such as MyStatLab, MathXl, etc, and they are all more advanced than MyOpenMath. In my opinion, the MyOpenMath answers are rather clunky and sometimes inaccurate. But it also comes about licensing terms and pricing. Your school, depending on their budget will choose a math platform accordingly.
All platforms respond to essentially the same idea. Basically, you go through your math coursework by responding to a set of computer generated problems, with numbers generated randomly. And as with most other platforms, with MyOpenMath will need to provide and answer and the system will give you feedback (sometimes it is instantaneous feedback and sometimes it is delayed feedback), so that you will know whether you answer is wrong or right. By design, all the problems generated by the MyOpenMath system are more or less similar to the questions you were presented with when your practice lessons were completed.
The Difficulty Level You Will Find on the Digital Math Platforms
Since the difficulty gets varied throughout the set of questions, you will likely come across some problems you really weren't prepared to answer, because either you failed to realize the complexity of the contents or simply were unable to work out an appropriate answer. Some systems are timed, some are not, or some tasks are timed and some aren't, it all depends.
One good strategy is to work a specific amount of time or a predetermined number of problems every day, instead of waiting for the deadline to come your way. This is a wise because it is SO common to students to let go and let the deadline to come dangerously close. And make no mistake: you will require some time to figure out how to correctly to many questions, and depending on your type of course, you may have a LOT of coursework and homework to go through.
Make sure you understand well the amount of work you have due. I have seen students that have to solve a few problems a week, and I have seen students that have to go through hundreds (yes hundreds) of questions on a weekly basis.
What is Different About MyOpenMath?
One piece of advice about MyOpenMath: This platform is slightly different from most others, and the difference is that the system is quite picky about the format of the answers you provide. This is, the system is not too tolerant to (sometimes extreme valid) deviations from the format it is expecting to find in order to give credit.
